March and February 2014 CT Fire Truck News and Things

(from connfire.com)

March 2014:

Cromwell:
Cromwell Fire has applied, and I believe been approved to operate two more ambulances.

Middletown: Westfield Fire District is almost set to go to bid for a new heavy rescue truck.

Middletown: The Middletown Fire Department has been approved funds to purchase a new pumper truck.

Derby: The city approved purchasing a Pierce Arrow XT pumper to replace Engine 12 at the Storms fire station.

East Haddam: EHFD placed into service a Spartan/ERV walk around on a Ford chassis rescue truck which replaced the old walk in style rescue.

East Haddam: The Seagrave pumper has been donated to the Eastern Fire School.

East Hampton: East Hampton Fire is very close to purchasing a demo tanker from Firematic.  Funds have been approved, it just needs to be voted on and pass which will take place at the end of March.  The truck is a 2,000 gallon tanker on a Peterbuilt chassis.

February 2014:

East Hartford:
The fire department shop did a complete refurbishment of the squad truck.

East Hartford: EHFD has retired the Sutphen spare aerial from service.

Waterford: A new pumper for the Jordan company in town has been awarded to E-One and is currently in progress.

Fairfield: Fairfield Fire is spec'ing a new apparatus which I will elaborate more on down the road.

Milford: The town approved the purchase of a new quint for the fire department which is currently out to bid.

New Britain: The spec is out for 1 new aerial truck.  It was supposed to be for two new aerials, however only one is being ordered.  Bids open on Friday February 28, 2014.

Haddam: Haddam Fire took delivery of a 2013 US Tanker on a Kenworth chassis 2700/1000 which should go into service late March.  They're also spec'ing a new pumper.

Madison: The North Madison Fire Department is currently outfitting an F-250 pick-up as the department utility service vehicle.

Chester: 2014 Chevy Silverado 3500 Reading utility body delivered being outfitted for service.

Bridgeport: Rescue Co 5 has been assigned and is now running a black over red 2013 Pierce Arrow XT Walk Around Heavy Rescue.  Also Engine 1 is running a 2013 Pierce Arrow XT pumper which went online a few weeks ago.

Hamden: Hamden has placed an order for new rescue trucks very much like New Haven Fire Emergency Unit #1.  They will be Ford crew cab pick-ups with caps and slide out trays for medical equipment.  I believe it will be a late spring or early summer before the new rescue's are on line.

Kent: Kent took delivery of the KME tower and engine this weekend and spent Sunday 2/2 training and flowing water.  The ambulance is due within the next week or so.  It is a Lifeline on a GMC chassis.
