September/October/November 2014 CT Fire Truck News

New Facilities:


Bethlehem:
 Bethlehem Ambulance moved into a new facility across from the fire station next to the bank.


Burlington: Funds have been approved, as well as grant money was aquired to build a new Lake Garda Fire Station #4.  I believe construction will begin during the Spring of 2015.

Derby: Derby Storms purchased and remodeled a building in town for Storms Ambulance.

Enfield: Thompsonville is currently building a new station to replace the Pearl Street station 

Harwinton: Harwinton Ambulance new facility is making progress. Last I knew, they were hoping to move in the new facility in 2015.

Lisbon:  The town is looking at purchasing land to build a new fire station or remodel the current fire station. 

North Haven:  The Fire Headquarters renovation and Montowese new fire station are complete.  Construction has shifted to West Ridge and Northeast Fire Stations as they will be completely rennovated.

Fire Apparatus:

Avon: Avon Fire has signed a contract with GK for two custom pumper trucks.

Beacon Falls: Beacon Falls has the funding to replace Engine 1 with a Quint, although I do not believe an order has been placed yet.

Bethel: Bethel Fire has signed a contract with Sutphen for a custom Monarch pumper.

Bethlehem: Bethlehem Fire is in the early stages of spec'ing a pumper tanker.

Bolton: Engine Tanker 334 E-One underwent a refurbishment at GK.

Bradley International Airport: Bradley Fire placed an order with Sutphen for a 75' Quint.

Branford: Branford Engine 4 should be returning from Twin Lights after being refurbished which included a new paint job.  The 1997 Pierce Saber will be white over red.  I believe Engine 2 and Rescue 1 will be refurbished / repainted in the near future.

Bristol: Bristol Fire has signed a contract with Pierce for a new pumper truck.

Brookfield: Brookfield Fire will likely be signing a contract for a new custom pumper in the upcoming months.

Brooklyn: The Mortlake Fire Company purchased a demo heavy rescue from Rescue 1.  It is on a Spartan Chassis and I believe is out being fitted for equipment.

Chaplin: Chaplin purchased a 2004 Pierce pumper which should be in service before the end of the year if not already.  They also refurbished the Mack tanker.

Cheshire: Voters will decide in November if the town can award the fire department funding to replace an aerial truck which has already been removed from service. 

Colchester: The Colchester Fire Department has a new heavy rescue being built.  It will be a Spartan/Marion.

Colebrook: Colebrook is currently in the spec'ing stage for a new pumper.  I believe a new or refurbished tanker may also be in the future for them.

Connecticut Fire Academy: The Fire Department was awarded grant money and the state will kick in its share for a new custom pumper that should be ordered by the end of the year.

Cromwell: A new ambulance is on order.

Danbury:  Danbury Fire has a Pierce Arrow XT Mid Mount Aerial being built with a delivery expected around the first of the year.

Derby: There have been a few new additions to the department.  A new Pierce Arrow XT has been ordered for Storms.  FD-10 underwent a refurb and is now back.  FD-9 was out having work done to it.  They purchased a bus for the dive team.  

East Haven: East Haven Town Council approved $640,000 in Capitol Improving projects.

Included in this bond package:

$50,000 for SCBA's
$35,000 for SUV

The new SUV will be for the Chief (C1).
His car will likely become the Safety Officers (C6).
Current C6 may go to C8 (Fire Inspector).


Eastford: Eastford Fire has a new pumper being built on a Spartan chassis with a springtime delivery expected. 

Ellington: Ellington Fire is in the early stages on spec'ing a pumper.

Enfield: Although unsure if a contract has been signed, Enfield Fire is planning to replace an aerial and pumper in 2015.

Greenwich: Greenwich Fire has 2 Seagrave engines on order.

Groton: Center Groton Fire placed a Dodge/Marion rescue truck in service.

Groton Sub Base: The Groton Sub Base has a KME Haz-Mat truck currently being built.  I believe delivery should be before the end of the year. 

Guilford: The twin tankers have arrived! They are 4-Guys 3,500 gallon tankers built on Spartan 2 person chassis.  One will be stationed in downtown while the other will go to North Guilford. 

Hamden: The rescue trucks have been replaced with Ford crew cab pick-ups with a pull out tray much like New Haven Emergency #1.  They're also spec'ing a new pumper.

Hartford: On order is a pumper and aerial truck which I believe are both being built by Sutphen.

Hebron: Has a Spartan/4-Guys pumper in service.

Killingly: South Killingly and Danielson both took delivery of new GMC utility truck first responder EMS vehicles.  Dayville has a new engine on order with Pierce.

Lisbon: Is in the early stages of spec'ing a new pumper tanker.

Litchfield: Smeal was awarded the bid for a pumper tanker for the Northfield Fire Company.

Lyme: Lyme placed into service a Ford/General brush truck.

Mansfield: Mansfield Fire has a pumper tanker on order which will be built on a Spartan chassis.

Meriden: The City approved the purchase of a 2008 Crimson pumper 1250/750 which will replace Engine 5.  The current Engine 5 will likely become a spare.  The Crimson served the Union Fire District in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.  It ran as Engine 18 which was housed at station 7 in Matunuck.

Middlefield:  Has a 2014 HME/GK pumper in service for Engine 3.

Middletown: Middletown Fire has money budgeted for a new pumper. 

Middletown:  South Fire District has purchased a demo Spartan/Marion pumper (for Engine 32) that is being outfitted with equipment.

Middletown: Westfield Fire placed an order with Rescue 1 for a new heavy rescue.  A new SUV chief vehicle was also purchased.

Milford: Has a new quint is currently out to bid.

Monroe: Two new ambulances have been delivered and are being outfitted.

Morris: Morris Fire is in the early stages of spec'ing a new pumper tanker.

Naugatuck: The second Pierce is at Bulldog Fire being refurbished.

New Britain: Has a Smeal aerial truck ordered with a 2015 late spring early summer delivery expected. 

New Canaan: Has a new Spartan/Marion pumper delivered and in service for Engine 1. The old truck now is now a spare truck.
New Fairfield: Has a new ambulance is on order.

New Haven: I believe all is approved for a new pumper to replace Engine 6.

New Milford: Water Witch took delivery of a Spartan/Marion pumper.

Norfolk: Both an engine and the tanker have had some refurb work done by GK.

North Branford: Ambulance 44 has been sent out to be refurbished.  It will be identical to Medic 4.  Also, out to bid is a tanker for Station 3.

North Haven:  Emergency #1 is now using a Ford/PL Custom ambulance which replaced the spare unit.  The former EU #1 is now a spare.  Also Engine 1 has been assigned a demo Smeal pumper.  Engine 2 is out of service for good and will likely be assigned the old Engine 1.  The spare engine will go back to reserve status (running as E2 now).

Old Saybrook: Old Saybrook awarded Pierce to build a new pumper to replace a 1984 Pierce Arrow.
